Immature Stages of Philanthinae

Detailed information on immature stages of Sphecidae (Philanthinae) is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that the egg is deposited ventrally on the thorax of prey that has been attained by the parents.  The larvae are thought to be unable to develop to maturity upon bees that have not first been deprived of their burden of honey.  A greater number of bees are killed than can be utilized in stocking the nest.
